The multimedia play Fathers is a psychological monodrama about a man who finds himself abroad during the war. He is torn between two different worlds in his heart - to return to Ukraine and go to the front or to stay with his family who needs him so much. The play is about the search for answers and truth inside yourself when you put all your strength into fighting the evil that Russia is doing in your home. Fathers is not only a play about war. It is also a story about the power of the human spirit, hope and survival. Author and actor Maksym Demsky shares his experiences with extraordinary honesty, giving the audience a deeper understanding of the tragedy of war in Ukraine. The play raises complex internal human questions of choice, goals and personal virtues. The viewer is faced with the question: what choice would each of us make in such a situation? And am I not inactive in this chaos?
The mono-performance, through text, music, choreography and stage image, aims to engage the viewer in discussing the complex issues of relations between Ukrainians and Europeans, injustice and the challenges facing humanity today as we look to our future. The multimedia performance Fathers was created in collaboration with Ukrainian, Polish and Belarusian artists.
